Resolution Update: Septemeber

Because September was so busy it felt like we didn't do a lot of wasting.  Granted, I think we ate out a bit more than we normally would.

Food We Tossed:

3 pears: $1.04
1 peach: $0.26
Plums: $0.75
4 lbs potatoes: $1.20
1 Fridge Clean out: $5.37
6 strawberries: $0.54
1 Steak: $4.99
1 yogurt cup $0.33

Monthly Amount:

$14.48

It's lower than normal, but I am still not happy.  It was a lot of big items:
4lbs potatoes - I need tips on keeping them longer, they're in a cool and dark place but they seem to get soft quicker than "normal"
A lot of leftovers in the fridge clean out - I think I need to implement a weekly left over night
1 steak - this has nothing to do with me.  I don't eat beef so I didn't take the steak out to leave it marinating for a week... yep, that's what happened.

Year to Date:

$148.58

Average Monthly Total:

$16.51

Estimated Waste for a Year:

$198.11

On the right track.

Because October is going to be a busy month I've made a monthly meal plan.  It's so hard to find time to get a weekly meal plan together so this should make my life easier.  One of the perks of fall is it's a lot of soups, stews, and casseroles - all easy meals to pre-make and they take a lot of the same key ingredients.

I looked at my oh-so-busy calendar and decided what nights are best for slow cooker meals and which meals should be easy to make meals for the nights I work.  I've even come up with a list of recipes that take similar ingredients to the meals I'm planning so I can pre-make some dinners and freeze them.

I'd love to pre-make a whole bunch of meals and freeze so it's less work later.  It'll take a bit of planning so maybe in the new year.

Do you do any pre-making/cooking meals?  Any tips, suggestions, recipes you want to share?

    1. I started when I was pregnant this first time (meal planning). I was so turned off of food that we'd walk around the grocery store and I'd complain about how I wanted none of it. Then I'd go home and complain about having no food in the house (oh, pregnancy hormones). My husband suggested it so I'd stop bitching while shopping and it stuck.
