3 Short Months

When the summer started I was worried about how Lynden was going to do with preschool starting in just a few short months.  He's a pretty shy kid, which leads to a lot of clingyiness to people he does know.

Granted, we are to blame, since we don't expose him enough to new people and situations.

In June Lynden was afraid of loud noises, scared to go in water, wouldn't talk to new people (unless you played with him), not comfortable exploring new places, among some other hesitations.  Alyssa, on the other hand, has no problems with trying anything.

Now, it's September and Lynden is a whole new kid.

Loud noises are not nearly as scary.  He now tries to figure out what the sound might be.

Water?  No problem!  We go to the lake and he's itching to splash around.  He loves running through the sprinkler or hose.  He thinks it's funny when daddy splashed him at the pool.

He's more comfortable around new people.  Like me, he's shy at first but once he's okay with his surroundings he's chatty and social.  A great example was the long weekend we had a BBQ at a cousin's place, there were a lot of people we didn't know.  During dinner Alyssa was getting cranky so I decided to take her home and gave Lynden the option to come with us or stay.  He opted to stay, which is a big deal for him.  As we were leaving Lynden was talking to a woman with a baby, who's name was also Lynden (I don't the know the exact spelling).  I later heard he talked to her for quite a while.

Again, once he's comfortable with what's around him he's good to go.  At the water park we take him to he's perfectly good to play on his own, which he's never really done before.  (It's a nice treat for us to not have to walk around the park the whole time).  The biggest one for me was when we went to the Island and had a quick bite to eat at McDonalds.  Lynden actually played in the play area, which he's never done before (and hasn't since).

He's more observant, his memory is incredible, and his imagination keeps blossoming.

I know have no concerns about him starting preschool and being away from us for a few hours a week.

It's truly amazing to see how 3 short months have changed my little boy into such a big boy.

  2. Aww, so glad he is blossoming. My daughter used to be shy and cautious too but letting her try things at her own pace is really paying off, she's becoming surprisingly outgoing lately. :)

  4. Sometimes the ones who are the most shy end up being the most outgoing young adults!! My daughter was like this---I was worried about her, but in high school she blossomed and now is VERY outgoing with others!! Found you on the Fri. blog hop and am now following you via GFC. Would LOVE it if you cold visit my humorous site and follow back the same way---I would be very grateful if you could! Thanks for sharing! http://Menopausalmother.blogspot.com

  5. My son also just started preschool and I was equally concerned in June but for polar opposite reasons. He is super outgoing, will walk away with strangers and wants to be in the middle of whatever looks fun at the moment. But he seems to be doing marvelously in preschool. I think if you do your best, most kids do just fine, despite their parent's worrying. Found you on the blog hop. Wold love you to follow me back! www.heatherswholenewlife.blogspot.com

    1. I think that's exactly it, we worry even though we know deep down they'll be fine.
